I first bought a Jar of the Gorilla snot hair gel two summers ago, after I realized that my edge control was giving me big cystic breakouts on my hair line. I wanted something that would give me a great, something that would not flake, leave white residue or dry out my scalp and after a thorough youtube search, I had only one item on my list and it was the Gorilla Snot Extreme Hold Gel.
This gel has been around for a long time and is very popular with a lot of caucasian people who wear punk hairstyles. However, It became really popular in the natural hair community about three years ago because of the the type of hold it gives. I have used different types of edge controls in the past, a lot actually. I even used Eco styler gel as an edge control at one point but it did not come close to giving me the type of hold that I get with this product. I got decent hold with the Eco styler gel but that hold often fell apart in humid weather and normally didn't last till the end of the day.
My hair is currently natural, yes NATURAL and this product gives me great hold. My edges look perfect all day when I use this, even with sweating! and it does not flake or leave any residue. It has a very gooey texture which looks and feels just like snot but I don't mind it at all, I find it hilarious actually. I will strongly advise however that you moisturize your hair or edges thoroughly before using this product since it has alcohol which might dry out your scalp. In addition I like to wash the gel off my edges in the shower while I wash my face every night, just so that it doesn't build up or make my hair brittle. If you are still looking for that one product that would give you great hold, consider trying the Gorilla Snot Maximum hold gel. It has worked for me so far.
"The Lord is my heritage and my cup; it is you who hold my lot secure." Psalm 16:5
I have been hearing about this product but the whole snot theme is so disgusting. But hey, if it works, I can get over it.

I have relaxed hair but Nothing holds my edges down for the whole day when my hair isn't freshly relaxed :( I currently use eco styler gel and edge control and even that doesn't do it but it's the best so far. I will definitely add this to my "to try" list because it sounds like just what I need.

You should also check out the Hicks edge control, it works pretty well.
DeleteI've heard of it but to be honest the name kind of put me off. I currently use the Hicks edge control and it works pretty great for me. I may try this just because I like having options and I'm curious to see if it lives up to the hype.
ReplyDeleteWhere can I purchase this. I reside in lagos.
ReplyDeleteI actually thought your hair was relaxed. I think the idea is hilarious but I won't be able to get over it on my hair.

I actually bought this product because of the name, lol. I am weird. I have been natural for 4 years now and nothing holds my edges like the snot gel, the yellow one specifically(it has the strongest hold). Been hearing great reviews about the Got2b gel too, might try it soon.
